It’s with great pride that we welcome Victoria Longstreth, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to the team at Everett Family Medicine. We have a staff dedicated to help patients and their families in a holistic way that aims to treat every aspect of their well-being. By addressing concerns in lifestyle habits and getting the full picture of one’s health—both mental and physical—the best plan can be formulated to promote a happy, fulfilling life.
Meet Victoria Longstreth, ARNP
Victoria Longstreth was inspired to become a nurse due to her passion for caring for others. She chose to become an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to take a more long-term approach to healthcare and provide care for people throughout each stage of their life. “I want to work together with patients to improve their health and the health of their families,” said Longstreth.
Board Certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Longstreth earned her master’s degree in Family Practice Nursing from Gonzaga University and worked as a Registered Nurse for eight years before coming to the Western Washington Medical Group. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking, traveling with her husband, and spending time with family and friends.
What is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)?
An ARNP is one of four different types of advanced practice nurses who complete higher education and training in the field of nursing (the other three are Clinical Nurse Specialists; Certified Nurse Midwives; and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists). Typically, this means the medical professional has earned a Master’s or Doctorate degree in some aspect of nursing, whether broad or specific.
More and more healthcare facilities are utilizing the talents of Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners because of their experience working as an RN coupled with their advanced education.
Here in Washington State, ARNPs have what’s called “full practice authority,” which means that they are licensed to make decisions without the supervision of a doctor, though they may choose to consult one if they deem it necessary for the patient’s well-being.
Examples of typical duties for an ARNP include:
- Recording a patient’s medical history
- Conducting patient examinations
- Formulating a patient diagnosis
- Admitting and discharging patients to and from clinics and hospitals
- The ordering, performing and interpreting of diagnostic and laboratory tests
- Developing healthcare treatment plans for patients
- Providing education to patients about living a healthy life
- Managing and evaluating patients’ healthcare
- Performing certain procedures
- Writing prescriptions for patient medication
- Referring patients to specialists or other medical practitioners or facilities
Areas and specialties of ARNPs are vast. Some examples are:
- Primary Care
- Women’s Health
- Pediatrics
- Family Practice
- Cardiology
- Psychiatry
- Oncology
- Geriatrics
- Nephrology
- Dermatology
- Neurology
- Orthopedics
- Emergency
